Global Forum on Citizenship and Inclusion Returning to Calgary

Second edition of 6 Degrees Calgary to focus on role of arts and culture

CALGARY, February 28, 2019—On Thursday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) will welcome Calgarians to the second edition of 6 Degrees Calgary, a full day of engaging and interactive conversation and action on the role of culture and the arts in building inclusive societies. The University of Calgary is proud to return as presenting partner. The event will take place in the Jack Singer Concert Hall Lobby at Arts Commons (205 8th Avenue SE).

Speakers will include Shad, rapper and Host of Hip Hop Evolution; Sage Paul, artist, designer, and innovative leader for Indigenous fashion, craft, and textiles; Mii-Sum-In-Iskum (Justin Many Fingers), Artistic Director, Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society; The Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, 26th Governor General of Canada; John Ralston Saul, award-winning essayist and novelist; Stephen Borys, Director and CEO of the Winnipeg Art Gallery; and Rachel Giese, journalist and author. “What is the role of culture in the face of the politics of division? How can we use the power of culture as a tool for positive change, inclusion, and belonging? And how do we make culture itself more inclusive? We’re inviting Calgarians of all ages and from all walks of life to join us in tackling these key questions,” says ICC CEO Yasir Naqvi. “We can’t wait to be back in Calgary.”
